A comforting recipe for Soy Sauce Chicken, where tender chicken thighs are enveloped in a rich and savory soy sauce marinade, perfect for autumn gatherings.
Ingredients
- 4 chicken thighs, bone-in and skin-on
- 1/3 cup soy sauce
- 1/4 cup water
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 4 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 tablespoon ginger, grated
- 2 green onions, chopped
- Sesame oil, for drizzling
- Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Pat the chicken thighs dry with a paper towel and season with black pepper.
- Combine the soy sauce, water, brown sugar, garlic, and ginger in a bowl and stir until the sugar dissolves.
- Place the chicken in a bag or dish and pour the marinade over, coating all pieces. Let marinate for at least 30 minutes, preferably overnight.
- Add a drizzle of sesame oil to a skillet over medium-high heat and sear the chicken skin-side down until golden brown, about 4-5 minutes. Flip the chicken and pour in the marinade.
- Reduce the heat to low, cover the skillet, and let simmer for 25-30 minutes until cooked through, reaching an internal temperature of 165°F (75°C).
- Garnish with chopped green onions and serve over steamed rice or sautéed vegetables.
Notes
For extra flavor, spoon the remaining sauce over the chicken when serving. Adjust sugar for desired sweetness.
