Description

A warm and savory General Tso’s Chicken recipe that is simple enough for home cooks yet delivers rich flavor and a delightful crunch.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound chicken breast, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce (or a gluten-free version)
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup chicken broth
  • 1 teaspoon garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ginger, minced
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • Green onions, chopped (for garnish)
  • Sesame seeds (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the chicken: In a bowl, coat the chicken pieces with cornstarch and let them sit for about 15 minutes while you prepare the sauce.
  2. Make the sauce: In a separate bowl, mix together soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, sugar, chicken broth, garlic, ginger, and optional red pepper flakes. Whisk until the sugar dissolves.
  3. Cook the chicken: Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. When hot, add oil, and then the chicken cubes. Cook until they are golden brown and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes.
  4. Add the sauce: Once the chicken is cooked, pour the sauce over the chicken in the skillet. Stir well to coat all pieces and bring to a simmer. Cook for an additional 3-5 minutes until the sauce thickens.
  5. Garnish and serve: Remove from heat and garnish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds.

Notes

Adjust sweetness or spice levels in the sauce according to your preference. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days.
