Description

A warm, hearty treat that envelops juicy hot dogs in gooey cheese and crispy bread, perfect for cozy gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 4 halal beef or chicken hot dogs
  • 4 slices of your favorite bread (sourdough or whole wheat work wonderfully)
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or mozzarella, or a blend for more flavor)
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil or softened butter (for grilling)
  • Fresh herbs (like parsley or chives, for garnish, optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your pan: Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium heat.
  2. Prepare the hot dogs: Slice each hot dog lengthwise (but not all the way through) to create a pocket for the cheese.
  3. Stuff with cheese: Generously stuff each hot dog with the shredded cheese, packing it in well.
  4. Make the sauce: In a small bowl, combine the mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, paprika, and garlic powder; mix until smooth and creamy.
  5. Assemble the sandwich: Spread a layer of the sauce onto one side of each slice of bread. Place a stuffed hot dog between two slices of bread, sauce side down.
  6. Grill the sandwich: Brush the outside of the assembled sandwich with olive oil or softened butter. Place it on the hot skillet, cooking for about 3 to 4 minutes until golden brown.
  7. Flip and cook the other side: Carefully flip the sandwich and grill the other side for another 3 to 4 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the bread is crispy.
  8. Slice and serve: Remove from the pan, let it cool for a minute, slice in half, garnish with fresh herbs if desired, and serve with a drizzle of ketchup for dipping.

Notes

For extra crunch, consider adding a panko breadcrumb topping before grilling.
