Ingredients
- 8 ounces of elbow macaroni
- 2 tablespoons of unsalted butter
- 2 tablespoons of all-purpose flour
- 2 cups of whole milk
- 2 cups of shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- 1 cup of shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 teaspoon of garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon of onion powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1/2 cup of breadcrumbs (optional, for topping)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Cook the elbow macaroni in salted water until al dente, drain, and set aside.
- Make the cheese sauce by melting the butter in a saucepan, whisking in the flour, then gradually adding milk until thickened. Stir in garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
- Add cheddar and mozzarella cheese, stirring until melted.
- Combine the macaroni and cheese sauce in a large bowl until well-coated.
- Transfer to a greased baking dish, sprinkle breadcrumbs on top if desired, and bake for 20-25 minutes until bubbly and golden.
Notes
For best results, use a variety of cheeses for added flavor. This dish can be made ahead of time and stored in the fridge.
