Description
A hearty and nostalgic dish featuring tender beef liver and sweet caramelized onions, perfect for fall gatherings.
Ingredients
- 1 pound beef liver, thinly sliced
- 2 large onions, thinly sliced
- 4 tablespoons olive oil or butter
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
- 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the liver: Rinse the beef liver slices under cold water and pat them dry with paper towels.
- Season the liver: Sprinkle both sides of the liver slices generously with salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Let it sit for about 15 minutes.
- Cook the onions: In a large skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil or butter over medium heat. Sauté the onions for 10-15 minutes until soft and golden brown.
- Cook the liver: In the same skillet, add another 2 tablespoons of olive oil or butter. Increase heat to medium-high. Add seasoned liver slices and cook for 3-4 minutes on each side until browned.
- Combine and serve: Once the liver is cooked, return onions to the skillet, drizzle with balsamic vinegar, and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes.
- Garnish and enjoy: Transfer to a serving platter and sprinkle with fresh parsley before serving warm.
Notes
Ensure not to overcook the liver for the best texture. Pair with sides like mashed potatoes or a fresh salad.
