Ingredients
- 2 medium ripe bananas, sliced
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup water, plus more for dilution if needed
- 1 pinch salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1-2 shots strong brewed espresso or 1/2 cup cold brew concentrate
- 1 cup milk or dairy alternative
- Ice, as needed
Instructions
- Add the sliced ripe bananas, granulated sugar, and water to a small saucepan.
- Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally until the sugar dissolves, about 5 minutes.
- Reduce the heat to low and simmer for another 10-15 minutes, allowing the bananas to soften and release their flavor.
- Add a pinch of salt, remove the saucepan from the heat, and stir in the vanilla extract.
- Let the banana syrup cool completely and strain it for a smoother consistency if desired.
- Brew 1-2 shots of strong espresso or prepare 1/2 cup cold brew concentrate.
- Pour 2-3 tablespoons of the homemade banana syrup into a tall glass.
- Fill the glass generously with ice.
- Slowly pour 1 cup of your preferred milk or dairy alternative over the ice.
- Pour the prepared espresso or cold brew over the milk and banana syrup.
- Gently stir before serving and enjoy immediately.
Notes
Adjust the banana syrup to your preferred level of sweetness. Use very ripe bananas for a richer fruit flavor, and strain the finished syrup if you prefer a smooth consistency. For extra indulgence, top the latte with whipped cream, cinnamon, caramel, or chocolate sauce.
