A delightful and easy-to-make dish featuring air-fried tofu coated in a rich sticky sesame sauce, perfect for a cozy fall evening.
Ingredients
- 1 block of firm tofu (14 ounces)
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil or sesame oil
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce (or tamari) for sauce
- 2 tablespoons honey (or maple syrup for vegan)
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 2 teaspoons rice vinegar
- 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon grated ginger (or ground ginger)
- Cooked rice or quinoa for serving
- Sliced green onions for garnish
- A sprinkle of sesame seeds for garnish
Instructions
- Press the tofu to remove excess moisture by wrapping it in a clean kitchen towel and placing a heavy object on top for about 15-20 minutes.
- Once pressed, cut the tofu into cubes (roughly 1-inch pieces) and combine cornstarch, soy sauce, and olive oil in a bowl. Add the tofu cubes and gently toss until well-coated.
- Preheat your air fryer to 400ยฐF (200ยฐC) to achieve a crisp texture.
- Place the tofu cubes in the air fryer basket in a single layer and cook for 15-20 minutes, shaking halfway through.
- While the tofu cooks, mix the sauce ingredients in a small saucepan and heat over medium-low until thickened (about 5-7 minutes).
- Once cooked, toss the tofu in the sticky sesame sauce until fully coated, then serve over rice or quinoa, garnished with sliced green onions and sesame seeds.
Notes
For best results, use firm or extra-firm tofu and press it well. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
