Description

A delicious and cozy treat combining flaky pastry with savory mushrooms, perfect for the autumn season.

Ingredients

  • 1 sheet of puff pastry (thawed)
  • 2 cups fresh mushrooms, finely chopped (such as cremini or button mushrooms)
  • 1 small onion, finely diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • Optional: grated cheese (like mozzarella or cheddar) for added flavor

Instructions

  1. Prepare the filling: In a skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the diced onion and sauté until translucent, about 3-5 minutes. Add the minced garlic and chopped mushrooms, cooking until the mushrooms release their moisture and become tender, roughly 5-7 minutes. Stir in the thyme, salt, and pepper. Allow the mixture to cool slightly.
  2. Roll out the pastry: On a lightly floured surface, roll out your thawed puff pastry to your desired thickness (around 1/8 inch). Cut the pastry into squares or rectangles (approximately 4×4 inches).
  3. Assemble the pastries: Place a generous spoonful of the mushroom filling onto the center of each pastry square. If you’re using cheese, sprinkle some on top of the filling. Fold the pastry over to create a triangle or rectangle, pressing the edges to seal. Use a fork to crimp the edges for an elegant design.
  4. Prepare for air frying: Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C). Beat the egg and brush it over the top of each pastry for a beautiful golden finish.
  5. Cook in the air fryer: Arrange the pastries in a single layer in the air fryer basket, making sure they aren’t overcrowded. Air fry for 12-15 minutes, or until the pastries are golden brown and puffed. Flip them halfway through cooking for even browning.
  6. Serve and enjoy: Allow them to cool slightly before serving. These Air Fryer Mushroom Pastries are delightful warm and pairs beautifully with a side salad or soup!

Notes

Keep puff pastry chilled until ready to use and avoid overfilling to prevent leaks during cooking.
