Description
A cozy fall favorite, this Air Fryer Fried Chicken is a healthier alternative that captures the nostalgic essence of comfort food.
Ingredients
- 4 pieces of chicken (drumsticks or thighs)
- 1 cup buttermilk (or a halal alternative)
- 1 cup all-purpose flour (or a gluten-free alternative)
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- Optional: pinch of cayenne pepper
- Cooking spray or olive oil spray
- Fresh herbs (like parsley or thyme) for garnish
Instructions
- Marinate the Chicken: In a large bowl, combine the buttermilk, salt, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, and black pepper. Add the chicken pieces to the bowl and submerge them well in the marinade. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or overnight for even more flavor.
- Prepare the Coating: In another bowl, mix the flour, cayenne pepper (if using), and a bit more salt and pepper. Make sure everything is blended well.
- Coat the Chicken: Remove the marinated chicken from the fridge. Let any excess buttermilk drip off, then dredge each piece in the flour mixture, ensuring it’s well coated. Shake off any extra flour.
- Preheat the Air Fryer: Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for about 5 minutes.
- Arrange in the Air Fryer: Lightly spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray. Place the coated chicken pieces in the basket in a single layer.
- Air Fry the Chicken: Spray the tops of the chicken with cooking spray. Cook for 25-30 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden brown and reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (75°C).
- Serve and Enjoy: Let the chicken rest for a few minutes. Garnish with fresh herbs and serve with your favorite sides.
Notes
