Description

Warm, melt-in-your-mouth sugar cookies that are perfect for any occasion, blending subtle buttery sweetness with a soft texture.

Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 cups (280 g) all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon fine salt
  • 3/4 cup (170 g) softened unsalted butter
  • 1 cup (200 g) granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg (room temperature)
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons plain milk (any preferred milk)
  • Coarse sugar for rolling (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper and set aside.
  2. Whisk the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt together in a bowl.
  3. Beat the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 2–3 minutes.
  4. Add the egg, then the vanilla extract, scraping the bowl as needed.
  5. Add half the dry mix, then the milk, then the remaining dry mix. Mix just until combined.
  6. Scoop tablespoon-sized portions and roll into balls, rolling each in coarse sugar for sparkle.
  7. Place cookies about 2 inches apart and bake for 8–10 minutes, until edges are set but centers look slightly underbaked.
  8. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For a thicker cookie, chill the dough for 20-30 minutes before baking. Use room-temperature ingredients for best results.
