Description
Delicious Thai Basil Beef Rice Paper Rolls that combine seasoned beef with fresh vegetables, perfect for gatherings or a cozy night in.
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef (lean, high-quality)
- 1 tbsp vegetable oil
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp oyster sauce
- 1 tbsp fish sauce
- 1 tsp brown sugar
- 1 cup fresh Thai basil leaves, packed
- 1 medium carrot, julienned
- 1 small cucumber, seeded and julienned
- 1 cup bean sprouts (optional)
- 12 rice paper sheets (8.5–9 inch round)
- 1 lime, cut into wedges
- Dipping sauce: hoisin-peanut or sweet chili sauce
Instructions
- Heat the oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add minced garlic and onions and cook until soft and fragrant.
- Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned and cooked through.
- Stir in soy sauce, oyster sauce, fish sauce, and brown sugar. Cook another 1–2 minutes until glossy.
- Remove from heat and fold in the Thai basil leaves to wilt them slightly. Let the filling cool for 5–10 minutes.
- While the beef cools, julienne the carrot and cucumber and rinse the bean sprouts. Arrange on a plate.
- Fill a shallow dish with warm water. Dip one rice paper sheet for 5–7 seconds until pliable. Lay flat on a damp towel.
- Place a handful of beef filling in the lower third of the rice paper. Top with carrot, cucumber, and bean sprouts.
- Fold the bottom edge up over the filling, fold in both sides, and roll tightly to close. Repeat with remaining sheets and filling.
- Cut rolls in half if desired and serve with lime wedges and your favorite dipping sauce.
Notes
Use warm water to soften the rice paper and prevent sogginess. Keep rice papers from sticking by working on a damp towel.
