Description

A heartwarming meatloaf topped with rich caramelized onion gravy, perfect for cozy family gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb (450g) ground beef
  • 1 lb (450g) ground turkey
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 teaspoons dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped (optional)
  • 2 large onions, sliced (for gravy)
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons water
  • Salt and pepper to taste (for gravy)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Prep the Meatloaf Mixture: In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, ground turkey, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, chopped onion, minced garlic, eggs, milk, Worcestershire sauce, dried thyme, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined.
  3. Form the Loaf: Transfer the meat mixture into a loaf pan or shape it into a loaf on a lined baking sheet.
  4. Bake the Meatloaf: Place in the oven and bake for 1 hour or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (70°C).
  5. Caramelize the Onions: In a large skillet over medium heat, heat the butter. Add sliced onions and cook, stirring frequently, until golden brown, about 15-20 minutes.
  6. Prepare the Gravy: Add beef broth to the skillet with onions. Bring to a simmer, stir in the cornstarch mixture to thicken, and season with salt and pepper. Simmer until smooth and thickened.
  7. Serve: Allow the meatloaf to rest for about 10 minutes before slicing. Serve topped with warm caramelized onion gravy.

Notes

Use fresh ingredients for better flavor. Allow the meatloaf to rest before slicing to retain moisture.
