Description
A cozy one-pot casserole filled with savory ingredients and topped with a golden biscuit-like crust, perfect for busy weeknights.
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground turkey (or ground beef)
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 cups mixed frozen vegetables (peas, carrots, corn)
- 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup (or homemade creamy sauce)
- 1/2 cup chicken broth
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp dried thyme
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 cups biscuit mix (or a homemade drop-biscuit dough)
- 3/4 cup milk
- 2 tbsp melted butter
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a large ovenproof skillet or a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Brown the meat: In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground turkey with the chopped onion until browned and cooked through, about 6–8 minutes. Stir in the garlic and cook 30 seconds more.
- Build the filling: Add the frozen vegetables, cream of mushroom soup, chicken broth, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, salt, and pepper. Stir until combined and heated through. Simmer 3–4 minutes so flavors meld.
- Top with biscuits: In a bowl, mix biscuit mix and milk to form a soft dough. Drop spoonfuls of dough evenly over the filling. Brush tops with melted butter for a golden finish.
- Bake: Transfer to the oven and bake 20–25 minutes, until biscuits are puffed and golden and the filling bubbles at the edges.
- Rest and serve: Let cool 5 minutes before serving. This gives the filling a chance to settle and makes portioning easier.
Notes
Don’t overmix the biscuit dough and ensure even dollops for uniform cooking.
