Description
A warm and cheesy Potato Bake that embodies the spirit of autumn gatherings, perfect for cozy evenings or festive celebrations.
Ingredients
- 3 pounds of potatoes (Yukon Gold or Russet)
- 1 cup of heavy cream
- 1 cup of vegetable broth
- 2 cups of shredded cheese (Cheddar, Gruyère, or a mix)
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves of garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons of olive oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh herbs (like thyme or rosemary) for garnish, optional
- 1 teaspoon of paprika or nutmeg, optional
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Peel the potatoes and slice them thinly, about 1/8-inch thick.
- Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and garlic, sautéing until translucent and fragrant, about 3-5 minutes.
- Whisk together the heavy cream and vegetable broth in a mixing bowl. Add salt, pepper, and any additional spices.
- Grease a large baking dish. Begin layering the sliced potatoes on the bottom, then add sautéed onion and garlic, and a sprinkle of cheese.
- Pour the cream mixture over the layered ingredients, ensuring all potatoes are covered.
- Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for about 45 minutes. Then remove the foil and bake for another 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
- Garnish with fresh herbs, serve warm, and enjoy the cozy flavors!
Notes
For variations, consider gluten-free broth or a vegan alternative using coconut cream and vegan cheese. Also, adding layers of vegetables can increase nutrition.
