Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 large onion, thinly sliced
- 1 green bell pepper, thinly sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 cup beef broth
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon tomato paste
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- 8 soft sandwich rolls or brioche-style buns, warmed
- 8 slices provolone or fontina cheese
- Optional: pickled hot peppers or giardiniera for topping
Instructions
- Prep the veggies and rolls by slicing onions and peppers thinly and warming rolls in the oven.
- Sauté aromatics by heating olive oil and cooking onions and bell peppers until softened, then add garlic.
- Brown the meat by adding ground beef, seasoning, and mixing with the vegetables.
- Make it saucy by stirring in broth, Worcestershire sauce, and tomato paste, then simmer until thickened.
- Melt the cheese and assemble by laying cheese over the mixture and spooning onto the warmed rolls.
