Description

A crispy, juicy chicken sandwich with sweet and spicy hot honey glaze, buttery brioche buns, and bold Southern flavor in every bite.

Ingredients

  • 2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (or thighs)
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 tbsp hot sauce
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1 tsp cayenne pepper
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1 tsp red pepper flakes
  • 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • Pinch of salt
  • 4 brioche buns
  • Pickles or creamy coleslaw (optional)
  • Spicy mayo or pepper jack cheese (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, whisk buttermilk, hot sauce, garlic powder, and paprika. Add chicken and marinate for at least 1 hour or overnight.
  2. In another bowl, mix flour, cornstarch, cayenne, salt, and black pepper.
  3. Dredge each marinated chicken piece in the flour mix, pressing to coat thoroughly.
  4. Heat oil to 350°F and fry chicken for 5–7 minutes until golden and crispy. Drain on a rack.
  5. To make the hot honey glaze, simmer honey, red pepper flakes, vinegar, and salt for 3–5 minutes until slightly thickened.
  6. Toast brioche buns. Spread spicy mayo or add coleslaw, layer pickles, add fried chicken, and drizzle with hot honey glaze.

Notes

For a lighter version, air fry the chicken instead of deep frying. Use thighs for extra juiciness or breasts for a classic bite. Try gluten-free buns or lettuce wraps for a gluten-free option.
