Description

A cozy fall favorite, this Honey Garlic Crispy Chicken features a crunchy crust paired with sweet honey and garlicky flavors.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 lbs boneless chicken pieces (thighs or breasts), trimmed
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs (or gluten-free breadcrumbs)
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil (for shallow frying)
  • 3 tbsp butter
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar or apple cider vinegar
  • 1/2 tsp chili flakes (optional)
  • Fresh parsley or green onions for garnish

Instructions

  1. Pat chicken dry and cut into evenly sized pieces. Season lightly with salt and pepper.
  2. In one bowl, combine flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, and pepper.
  3. In a second bowl, whisk the eggs.
  4. In a third bowl, place the panko breadcrumbs.
  5. Dip each piece into the flour mix, then the egg, then into the breadcrumbs. Press crumbs gently so they stick.
  6. Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Fry chicken in batches, 3–4 minutes per side, until golden and cooked through (internal temp 165°F / 74°C). Transfer to a wire rack to keep crisp.
  7. In the same skillet, melt butter over low heat. Add garlic and cook for 30–60 seconds until fragrant.
  8. Stir in honey, soy sauce, vinegar, and chili flakes. Simmer for 1–2 minutes until slightly thickened.
  9. Return the chicken to the skillet and toss to coat in the glossy sauce, or drizzle the sauce over the pieces on a platter. Garnish with parsley or green onions and serve with steamed rice or roasted veggies.

Notes

Dry the chicken well before coating to help the crust adhere. Maintain medium heat while frying to avoid sogginess.
