Description

Comforting and quick, these Ground Beef Philly Cheesesteaks are perfect for cozy dinners or game-day gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 medium yellow onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 4 hoagie rolls or soft sub buns
  • 8 oz provolone or Monterey Jack cheese, sliced
  • Optional: 1 tbsp butter for toasting buns

Instructions

  1. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced onion and bell pepper, cooking until softened and lightly caramelized, about 8–10 minutes. Add the garlic in the last minute.
  2. Push the veggies to the side, increase heat to medium-high, and add the ground beef. Break it up with a spatula and cook until browned and cooked through, about 6–8 minutes.
  3. Stir the onions and peppers back into the beef and season with Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Let the mixture cook together for another 2 minutes to meld flavors.
  4. Split the hoagie rolls and, if desired, lightly butter and toast them in a pan or under the broiler until golden.
  5. Spoon the beef and vegetable mixture into the toasted rolls, then top with slices of cheese. Return the assembled sandwiches to a hot skillet or broiler for 1–2 minutes until the cheese is perfectly melted.
  6. Slide each sandwich onto a plate and enjoy immediately while gooey and warm.

Notes

Use a hot pan for caramelization. Drain excess fat from beef for moist sandwiches. Layer cheese while meat is in the skillet for even melting.
