Description
Comforting and quick, these Ground Beef Philly Cheesesteaks are perfect for cozy dinners or game-day gatherings.
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 medium yellow onion, thinly sliced
- 1 green bell pepper, thinly sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 4 hoagie rolls or soft sub buns
- 8 oz provolone or Monterey Jack cheese, sliced
- Optional: 1 tbsp butter for toasting buns
Instructions
- Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced onion and bell pepper, cooking until softened and lightly caramelized, about 8–10 minutes. Add the garlic in the last minute.
- Push the veggies to the side, increase heat to medium-high, and add the ground beef. Break it up with a spatula and cook until browned and cooked through, about 6–8 minutes.
- Stir the onions and peppers back into the beef and season with Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Let the mixture cook together for another 2 minutes to meld flavors.
- Split the hoagie rolls and, if desired, lightly butter and toast them in a pan or under the broiler until golden.
- Spoon the beef and vegetable mixture into the toasted rolls, then top with slices of cheese. Return the assembled sandwiches to a hot skillet or broiler for 1–2 minutes until the cheese is perfectly melted.
- Slide each sandwich onto a plate and enjoy immediately while gooey and warm.
Notes
Use a hot pan for caramelization. Drain excess fat from beef for moist sandwiches. Layer cheese while meat is in the skillet for even melting.
