Description

Delightful fruit scones perfect for autumn, combining sweet fruits and a flaky texture.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk (or non-dairy alternative)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup mixed seasonal fruits (e.g., dried cranberries, chopped apples, or blueberries)
  • 1 egg (for egg wash, optional)
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Mix dry ingredients: whisk flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon in a bowl.
  3. Cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Combine wet ingredients: mix buttermilk and vanilla, then stir into dry ingredients until just combined.
  5. Fold in the seasonal fruits gently.
  6. Shape the dough into a 1-inch thick circle on a floured surface.
  7. Cut slices or use a round cutter for scones.
  8. Prepare for baking by spacing the scones on the baking sheet and brushing with egg wash if desired.
  9. Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
  10. Cool on a wire rack for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

Use cold ingredients for a flaky texture. Don’t overmix the dough. Customize fruits based on seasonality.
