Description
A comforting and crispy air fryer chicken recipe that’s lighter and healthier without sacrificing flavor.
Ingredients
- 2 pounds of chicken pieces (legs, wings, or boneless cuts)
- 1 cup of buttermilk (or a plant-based alternative if desired)
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- 1 cup all-purpose flour (or gluten-free flour for a gluten-free option)
- 1 cup breadcrumbs (preferably panko for extra crispiness)
- Cooking spray or a light drizzle of olive oil
Instructions
- Marinate the chicken: In a large bowl, combine the buttermilk, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, oregano, salt, and black pepper. Add the chicken pieces to the marinade, ensuring they are well coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 60 minutes, or overnight for maximum flavor.
- Prepare the coating: In another bowl, mix the flour and breadcrumbs. This mixture will give your chicken that delightful crunch!
- Coat the chicken: Remove the marinated chicken pieces from the fridge. Shake off excess marinade then dredge them in the flour and breadcrumb mixture, pressing firmly to ensure an even coating.
- Preheat the air fryer: Preheat your air fryer to 380°F (193°C) for about 5 minutes.
- Cook the chicken: Arrange the coated chicken pieces in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Spray lightly with cooking spray or drizzle with olive oil. Cook for 25-30 minutes, flipping halfway through, until the chicken is golden brown and reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (75°C).
- Serve and enjoy: Remove the chicken from the air fryer and let it rest for a few minutes. Serve it warm with your favorite dipping sauce and seasonal sides.
Notes
For best results, use a meat thermometer to ensure the chicken is fully cooked and avoid overcrowding in the air fryer.
