Description
A savory and crispy garlic tortilla bread, perfect for dipping or enjoying on its own during the cozy autumn season.
Ingredients
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 cup warm water
- 3 tablespoons vegetable oil (or melted coconut oil)
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons butter, melted (or a halal alternative)
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
- Prepare the dough: In a large bowl, combine the flour, salt, and baking powder. Whisk together to ensure even distribution. Gradually pour in the warm water while stirring with a wooden spoon or your hands to combine. Add the vegetable oil and continue mixing until a dough forms. If the dough feels too sticky, add a little more flour until it’s manageable.
- Knead the dough: Transfer the dough onto a floured surface and knead it for about 5-7 minutes until it’s smooth and elastic. Place the kneaded dough back into a bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rest for about 30 minutes.
- Roll out the tortillas: After resting, divide the dough into small balls (about the size of a golf ball). On a floured surface, roll each ball into a thin circle, about ¼ inch thick. The tortillas should be slightly larger than your hand.
- Cook the tortillas: Heat a non-stick skillet or frying pan over medium-high heat. Place one tortilla in the skillet and cook for about 1-2 minutes on each side, or until golden and crispy. Repeat with the remaining tortillas.
- Prepare the garlic butter: In a small bowl, mix the melted butter with the minced garlic. As each tortilla comes off the skillet, brush it generously with the garlic butter while it’s still hot.
- Garnish and serve: Stack the crispy tortillas and sprinkle fresh parsley on top. Serve warm with your favorite dips, soups, or as a delicious side to any meal.
Notes
Allow the dough to rest for optimal texture and enjoy with a variety of dips.
