Ingredients
- 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened (or halved with a halal substitute)
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 2 large eggs
- 2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
- Optional: 1 cup chopped nuts (walnuts or pecans)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Mix the flour, baking soda, and salt in a small bowl, then set aside.
- Cream the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar in a large mixing bowl until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
- Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then blend in the vanilla extract.
- Combine the dry ingredients with the wet mixture, mixing until just combined.
- Fold in the chocolate chips and nuts if using until evenly distributed.
- Scoop rounded balls of dough onto ungreased baking sheets, leaving about 2 inches of space between each.
- Bake for 9-11 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden and the centers are still soft.
- Cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
