Delicious cheesy fritters that are warm, crispy, and perfect for fall gatherings.
Ingredients
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or your favorite variety)
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 cup finely chopped green onions or chives (optional)
- Oil for frying
Instructions
- Prep the Ingredients: Start by shredding your cheese and chopping the green onions or chives, if you’re using them. Gather all your ingredients on your kitchen counter to streamline the process.
- Mix the Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper.
- Combine Wet Ingredients: In another bowl, whisk together the egg and milk until smooth.
- Create the Batter: Pour the wet ingredients into the dry mixture and stir until just combined.
- Add the Cheese: Gently fold in the shredded cheese and green onions/chives (if using).
- Heat the Oil: In a large skillet, heat about 1/2 inch of oil over medium heat.
- Fry the Fritters: Carefully spoon about 2 tablespoons of batter into the hot oil for each fritter. Fry in batches for about 2 to 3 minutes on each side.
- Drain and Serve: Remove the fritters and let them drain on a paper towel. Serve them warm with your favorite dipping sauce.
Notes
For extra flavor, experiment with different cheese varieties. You can also bake these fritters instead of frying them for a healthier option.
