Description
A delightful recipe for crispy onion fritters, perfect for autumn gatherings and cozy nights at home.
Ingredients
- 2 large yellow onions, thinly sliced
- 1 cup chickpea flour (besan)
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon cumin powder
- 1/2 teaspoon coriander powder
- 1 teaspoon paprika or chili powder
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt (to taste)
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 cup water (adjust as needed)
- 2 tablespoons fresh cilantro, finely chopped (optional)
- A spray of olive oil or cooking spray for air frying
Instructions
- Prepare the onions: In a large bowl, combine the thinly sliced onions with a pinch of salt. Let them sit for about 10-15 minutes.
- Mix the batter: In another bowl, whisk together the chickpea flour, all-purpose flour, cumin, coriander, paprika, baking powder, salt, and black pepper. Gradually add water, mixing until you achieve a thick, but pourable batter.
- Combine: Add the drained onions to the batter. Mix until the onions are well-coated. If you’re using cilantro, fold it in at this stage.
- Preheat the air fryer: Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for about 3-5 minutes.
- Fry the fritters: Spray the air fryer basket lightly with olive oil. Drop spoonfuls of the onion mixture into the basket, making sure not to overcrowd it.
- Cooking time: Air fry for about 10-12 minutes or until they are golden brown and crispy, flipping halfway through.
- Serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauce.
Notes
Letting the onions sit with salt enhances their flavor and crunchiness. Adjust the water in the batter to achieve the desired consistency.
