Description

A warm, comforting Apple Dessert bursting with sweet apples and spices, perfect for fall gatherings.


Ingredients

  • 6 medium-sized apples (preferably Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or a mix)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup rolled oats
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted (or halal-style margarine)
  • ¼ cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • A pinch of salt


Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Wash and peel the apples, then core and slice them thinly.
  3. Combine the sliced apples with lemon juice, granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg (if using), and cornstarch in a large bowl. Mix well to ensure the apples are evenly coated.
  4. In another bowl, combine flour, rolled oats, brown sugar, melted butter, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt. Mix until crumbly.
  5. Spread the apple mixture evenly into a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
  6. Sprinkle the crust mixture over the apple filling, ensuring it’s evenly distributed.
  7. Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 40-45 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the topping is golden brown.
  8. Allow the dessert to cool slightly before serving.

Notes

For a crisper topping, par-bake the crust before adding the apples. Makes great leftovers.
