Ingredients

  • 1 can (15 oz) black beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 cup cooked quinoa (or your favorite grain)
  • 1 cup finely chopped vegetables (bell peppers, carrots, onions)
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 large egg (or flaxseed egg for a vegan option)
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Olive oil spray for air frying


Instructions

  1. Prep your ingredients: Start by preparing your veggies. Finely chop your bell peppers, carrots, and onions to ensure they mix well into the burger blend.
  2. Mash the beans: In a large bowl, add the drained black beans. Use a fork or a potato masher to mash them until mostly smooth but still slightly chunky.
  3. Combine ingredients: Add the cooked quinoa, chopped vegetables, breadcrumbs, egg, soy sauce, garlic powder, cumin, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper into the bowl with the mashed beans. Mix until well combined.
  4. Shape the patties: Divide the mixture into even portions and gently shape them into patties. You should be able to form about 6-8 patties.
  5. Preheat your air fryer: Follow the manufacturer’s instructions to preheat your air fryer to 370°F (190°C).
  6. Air fry the patties: Spray the air fryer basket with olive oil. Place the patties in a single layer in the basket, lightly spraying the tops with olive oil. Air fry for 10-12 minutes, flipping halfway through until golden brown and crispy.
