Description
A cozy and comforting Air Fryer Shepherd’s Pie, perfect for fall evenings, featuring a crispy topping and rich filling.
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef (or halal ground turkey)
- 1 cup carrots, diced
- 1 cup peas (fresh or frozen)
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 cup beef broth (or vegetable broth for a vegetarian option)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1 teaspoon dried rosemary
- 2 cups mashed potatoes (homemade or store-bought)
- ¼ cup milk
- 2 tablespoons butter (or a plant-based alternative)
- Salt to taste
- Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the Filling
- Sauté the Vegetables: Preheat your air fryer to 350°F (175°C). In a skillet over medium heat, add a splash of oil and sauté the chopped onions and minced garlic until fragrant and translucent.
- Brown the Meat: Add the ground beef (or turkey) to the skillet. Cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula as it cooks. Drain excess fat if necessary.
- Mix in the Veggies: Stir in the diced carrots, peas, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, herbs, and beef broth. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Let everything simmer for about 10 minutes until the veggies are tender.
- Assemble the Shepherd’s Pie
- Layer the Filling: Spoon the meat and vegetable mixture into a heatproof dish that fits into the air fryer basket.
- Add Mashed Potatoes: Spread the mashed potatoes over the top of the filling, smoothing it out to ensure the entire surface is covered. Decorate with a fork if you want a textured topping.
- Air Fry the Pie
- Cook in Air Fryer: Place the dish in the preheated air fryer. Cook at 400°F (200°C) for about 15-20 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and crispy.
- Garnish and Serve: Once done, carefully remove from the air fryer. Let it sit for a few minutes before garnishing with fresh parsley.
Notes
For fluffiest mashed potatoes, use starchy potatoes and warm milk. Avoid overcooking the meat to keep it tender.
