Description

A delightful combination of savory sausage and earthy mushrooms, perfect for a cozy fall gathering.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound large button mushrooms (cleaned and stems removed)
  • 8 ounces Italian sausage (or beef sausage if preferred)
  • ½ cup finely chopped onion
  • 2 garlic cloves (minced)
  • 1 cup cream cheese (softened)
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs (use gluten-free if necessary)
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley (chopped)
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Olive oil spray

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Mushrooms: Start by preheating your air fryer to 350°F (175°C). Clean the mushrooms by wiping them gently with a damp cloth. Carefully remove the stems and set the caps aside.
  2. Cook the Sausage: In a skillet over medium heat, cook the sausage until browned, breaking it apart as it cooks (about 5-7 minutes). Once cooked, remove it from heat and let it cool slightly.
  3. Sauté Onions and Garlic: In the same skillet, add the chopped onion and minced garlic. Sauté for about 3-4 minutes, until they’re fragrant and translucent.
  4. Mix the Filling: In a large bowl, combine the cooked sausage, sautéed onions and garlic, softened cream cheese, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, parsley, Italian seasoning, and salt and pepper. Mix well until everything is fully incorporated.
  5. Stuff the Mushrooms: Generously fill each mushroom cap with the sausage mixture, ensuring to pile it on top.
  6. Air Fry the Mushrooms: Lightly spray the air fryer basket with olive oil. Place the stuffed mushrooms in a single layer, ensuring they aren’t touching. Air fry for 8-10 minutes, or until the tops are golden and the mushrooms are tender.
  7. Serve Warm: Once done, remove the mushrooms from the air fryer, let them cool for a moment, and then serve warm.

Notes

Choose large button mushrooms for best results and consider using gluten-free breadcrumbs if needed.
