Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef (or a halal alternative like ground turkey or chicken)
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs (use gluten-free if necessary)
  • 1/2 cup onion, finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup bell pepper, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup milk (or almond milk for a dairy-free option)
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons BBQ sauce (plus extra for topping)
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley (or 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped)
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)
  • 1/4 cup grated cheese (optional)


Instructions

  1. Prepare the Mixture: In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, chopped onion, chopped bell pepper, minced garlic, milk, egg, BBQ sauce, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, and parsley. Use your hands or a spatula to mix until all ingredients are fully incorporated, being careful not to overmix.
  2. Shape the Meatloaf: Form the meat mixture into a loaf shape, around 9 inches long and 5 inches wide, and place it on a piece of parchment paper.
  3. Preheat the Air Fryer: Preheat your air fryer to 350°F (175°C) for about 5 minutes.
  4. Cook the Meatloaf: Carefully transfer the meatloaf into the air fryer basket. Cook it at 350°F (175°C) for 25-30 minutes. About 5 minutes before the cooking time is up, brush a layer of BBQ sauce on top.
  5. Check for Doneness: Use a meat thermometer to check the internal temperature of 160°F (70°C). If not done, continue cooking in 5-minute increments.
  6. Rest and Slice: Once cooked, let the meatloaf rest for 5-10 minutes before slicing.
