Description
A delicious and healthier twist on traditional fried chicken, made using an air fryer for a crispy texture and juicy flavor, perfect for fall gatherings.
Ingredients
- 4-6 pieces of chicken (bone-in thighs or drumsticks, or a mix)
- 1 cup buttermilk (or use plant-based buttermilk as a substitute)
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon paprika (smoked or regular)
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- ½ teaspoon baking powder
- Cooking spray (to enhance crispiness and lower fat content)
Instructions
- Marinate the Chicken: In a large bowl, add chicken pieces and pour in the buttermilk. Make sure each piece is fully submerged. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, preferably overnight.
- Prepare the Dredging Mixture: In another bowl, whisk together the flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper, and baking powder.
- Coat the Chicken: Remove the chicken from the buttermilk and dredge each piece in the flour mixture, ensuring an even coating.
- Preheat Your Air Fryer: Set your air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for about 3-5 minutes.
- Arrange the Chicken: Lightly spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray. Place the chicken pieces in a single layer.
- Cooking Time: Air fry the chicken for about 25 to 30 minutes, turning halfway through, until it reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).
- Serve and Enjoy: Once done, let the chicken rest for a few minutes before serving.
Notes
Brining the chicken before marinating in buttermilk can enhance flavor. Consider variations like gluten-free or spicy options.
