Description

A decadent twist on the classic British Welsh Rarebit, featuring melty cheese and savory spices, perfect for cozy fall evenings.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, grated
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup milk (or a dairy-free alternative)
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce (ensure it’s halal)
  • 1 teaspoon mustard powder
  • ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust to taste)
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 4 slices of thick-cut bread (whole grain or sourdough recommended)
  • Fresh parsley, chopped, for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter.
  2. Add the flour, whisking constantly until you create a smooth paste (roux).
  3. Pour in the milk gradually, whisking until thickened and smooth.
  4. Stir in the grated cheddar cheese until fully melted and creamy.
  5. Add Worcestershire sauce, mustard powder, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper. Combine until well mixed.
  6. Preheat your air fryer to 350°F (175°C).
  7. Place your thick-cut bread slices on a flat surface and spoon the cheesy mixture over each slice.
  8. Carefully place the bread slices in the air fryer basket in a single layer.
  9. Cook for about 5-7 minutes or until the cheese is bubbly and slightly golden.
  10. Remove the Welsh Rarebit and sprinkle fresh parsley on top to garnish. Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

For a thicker cheese sauce, add more cheese or let it simmer longer. Use freshly grated cheese for better melting.
