Description
This crispy, flavorful dish blends a creamy, spicy sauce with perfectly cooked shrimp, creating a delightful starter or main dish for any occasion.
Ingredients
- 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined (tail on)
- 1 cup buttermilk (or plant-based alternative)
- 1 cup all-purpose flour (or gluten-free flour for a gluten-free option)
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust to your spice preference)
- Salt to taste
- Cooking spray or olive oil spray
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 2 tablespoons sweet chili sauce
- 1 tablespoon Sriracha (adjust for spice level)
- 1 teaspoon lime juice
- 1 teaspoon honey or maple syrup for sweetness
Instructions
- Prepare the shrimp: In a medium bowl, soak the peeled and deveined shrimp in buttermilk for about 30 minutes.
- Make the Bang Bang Sauce: While the shrimp soak, whisk together the mayonnaise, sweet chili sauce, Sriracha, lime juice, and honey in a small bowl. Set aside in the fridge for later.
- Coat the shrimp: After soaking, drain the shrimp and pat them dry with paper towels. In another bowl, combine the flour, garlic powder, paprika, black pepper, cayenne pepper, and a pinch of salt. Dredge the shrimp in the flour mixture, ensuring they’re fully coated.
- Preheat the air fryer: Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for about 5 minutes.
- Air fry the shrimp: Lightly spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray. Place the coated shrimp in a single layer, cook for 8-10 minutes, flipping halfway through, until the shrimp are golden brown and crispy.
- Toss in sauce: Once cooked, transfer the shrimp to a large bowl and drizzle with the Bang Bang sauce. Toss gently to coat.
- Serve: Serve warm, garnished with chopped green onions or cilantro and a wedge of lime on the side.
Notes
Use fresh shrimp for the best flavor, and don’t overcrowd the air fryer basket for maximum crispiness.
